Mini Solenoid Operators for Multiple Uses from Spartan

Spartan Scientific’s solenoid operator Series 3800 is specially designed for the pilot function of 3 and 4 way pneumatic directional control valves. These operators are available in plate mount and are interchangeable with most solenoid operator interfaces. The Series 3800 also can be used in 2 way or 3 way manifold assemblies where multiple valves are combined into a single block station for transmission of air, water, or other liquid medium. The simple plate mount operator and the interchangeable orifice baskets easily make small manifolds for regulation of either automated work stations or coolant water in molding presses. These mini solenoid operators are ideal for small custom valves such as those used to operate hospital bed air cushions and air-ride bellows car systems. The Series 3800 has a pressure range of vacuum to 200 psi depending on the orifice size and is dust-tight and water resistant to IP 65. ifm efector Introduces Compact PQ Series Pressure Sensors for Pneumatic Applications

EXTON, PA – ifm’s compact PQ Series pressure sensors are designed for pneumatic applications typically found in robotics and material handling applications. The sensors precisely measure the full range of pressure and vacuum typical in these applications.

The cube-shaped pneumatic pressure sensor easily retrofits traditional pressure switches at a fraction of the price. Measuring only 32mm x 30mm x 42mm, the compact sensor can be installed in areas with limited mounting space.

Application parameters are established using two pushbuttons. The bright, four-digit display indicates system pressure and can be clearly seen from long distances. The sensor features two programmable switching outputs or one switching and one diagnostic output. In addition, the values can be programmed to change color depending on the switching output status (e.g., red if output 1 is switched; green if output 1 is not switched).

The technology is based on a piezo-resistive measuring element. The silicon measuring cell is insensitive to liquids (e.g. condensed water) and deposits that might occur in the system. The cell changes resistance when pressure is applied. The stress induced in the cell is transformed into an electric signal that is proportional to the pressure. The silicon measuring cell guarantees a high overload resistance as well as an accuracy of ± 0.5%.

For mounting purposes, the PQ pressure sensor can be fixed to flat surfaces and profiles using the sensor’s two M4 drill holes located in the front of the sensor. The PQ can be mounted to a DIN rail or connected to plates or manifolds using ifm's robust DIN rail bracket. The sensor can be connected to air lines through the G-1/8 port using a 6mm or 8mm tubing adapter or a 1/8” NPT adapter.

Two models are available. PQ7809 has a measuring range of -14.5 to 14.5 psi and the PQ7834 has a measuring range of -14.5 to 145 psi. Electrical connection is made through an M8 Pico DC connector. List price for the PQ pressure sensors are $145.00 (US).

Fabco-Air, Inc., Products in Stainless Steel

Did you know Fabco-Air provides several of it's products in stainless steel? Stainless steel cylinders are ideal for withstanding harsh environments, as well as for wash down solutions that would ruin normal cylinders. Fabco-Air combines stainless steel with some of our most popular lines to create cylinders suited for these conditions.

Fabco-Air's Original Pancake is a compact cylinder with a solid body construction. This solid body provides a nearly seamless cylinder, leaving very few crevasses to trap wash down solution or cracks to allow bacteria to grow. Add to this the durability and corrosion resistance of stainless steel, and you have a cylinder that is perfect for use in the dairy and filling industries.

Looking for something a little more "standard"? Fabco-Air can help you with that, too. We offer an NFPA Tie Rod cylinder as well as our "F" Series "throw-away" style in stainless as well, providing an easy interchange with existing solutions. These cylinders in stainless allow the use of pneumatics in processes such a packing, filling, and food processing where caustic wash downs would destroy typical aluminum heads.

Still don't see what you want? No problem. Fabco-Air has a fully equipped machine shop and staff of engineers ready to help you build the special solution you need, so you can build the business you want.

Schunk introduces compact ring indexing table

Schunk has expanded its product range and now offers a compact ring indexing table for assembly applications within the Gemotec system.

The RST series is pneumatically driven and is available in two different sizes with the RST 18 and RST 24. Their key differences are the footprint (70x70 mm / 100x100 mm), torque (1.2 Nm / 4 Nm) and in the maximum axial force on the cycle ring (1950 N / 3400 N).

The ring indexing tables can cycle either to the left or the right or alternate, without requiring any modifications. Switching is performed by the pneumatic actuation alone, and the cycle types can be changed in any order and any number of times. Thus, the RST series allows the working process to be stopped, to return a few steps and repeat the processing step in question if errors occur - a unique feature not offered by any other manufacturer.

The angle adjustment can be set simply to 4, 6, 8 or 12 steps. Hydraulic shock absorbers are used as end position dampers in both directions. The repeat accuracy of the angle of rotation is less than 0.03°, the axial and radial run-out of the cycle ring is better than 0.02 mm.

As only the cycle ring rotates in the RST series, its special feature is an unusually large fixed central section. This makes it easier to add additional components and assemblies, and features a large feed-through bore. For example, it allows additional assemblies to be supplied with compressed air without the air hoses having to follow any rotating movements of the ring indexing table.

ROSS CONTROLS Introduces Dale Series CP & CX Compact Poppet Valves and Manifolds

(TROY, MI) – ROSS CONTROLS is pleased to announce the release of its Dale Series CP and CX
compact poppet valves and manifolds to the market. These cost effective valves offer customers a
super high-flow product in a small, manifold-ready design. Continuing ROSS’ 78-year tradition of
innovation and reliability, the Series CP and CX have a dirt-tolerant poppet design and continuousduty
rating which ensure long service life in a broad array of applications.
The Series CP and CX 2- or 3-way valves are available in normally-open, normally-closed and remote pilot configurations. The 2-way valves range from 3/8 to 2-1/2” pipe size with an impressive Cv range of 3.5 to 100. This high-flow capability is a unique and valuable feature in such a compact valve manifold design. The 3-way valves range from 1/2 to 1” pipe size and have a Cv range of 3.6 to 12.3.

These valves can be ordered with inline or manifold base-mounted configurations (with throughholes), depending on the application requirements. This manifold capability allows customer to save time and money otherwise spent on piping and reduces potential leak paths, which saves energy. For added flexibility, the valves are available with customer-specified manifolds that can combine normally-open, normally-closed, solenoid pilot or remote pressure control operation together in one manifold to create simple valve systems for traditionally complicated applications. For example, a
common application for these valves is on equipment where media of different pressure levels (including vacuum) may need to be applied sequentially to a common work piece. Instead of piping up several valves together with hard pipe, the Series CP and CX valves can be configured into a common manifold. This is mostly possible due to the valves’ revolutionary port pressure independence which can solve many configuration issues and provide customers with infinite design possibilities.

The Dale Series CP and CX valves and manifolds are suitable for many applications:
- Pulp and Paper
- Steel Mills- Pickling
- Packaging- Food and Chemical
- Power Generation
- Industrial Mineral
- Vacuum
- Leak Test (Series CX)

For applications where weight is a consideration, the Series CP and CX valves are a great solution because of their lightweight anodized aluminum alloy construction. Due to their leak tight design, the Series CX models are ably equipped for leak testing applications. Whatever the application, though, customers can look forward to time savings and ease of maintenance because the valves provide nonlube service and its manifolds can be serviced or repaired in minutes.

Contrinex Miniature Sensors withstand high pressure in severe environments

Contrinex has developed the ‘Series E’ range of miniature sensors that can withstand up to 300psi continuously on the front face. Available in 4mm, M5, 6.5mm and M8 sizes, these devices can be embedded in pressurized systems to detect moving elements or targets.

A typical application is in pneumatic systems to detect piston positions within cylinders. Where cylinders are subject to high vibration and shock, conventional reed switch feedback is often not suitable while the ‘Series E’ sensor provides a stable and positive control feedback in the most severe vibration conditions.

Other applications include gear tooth detection for speed or position control in gearboxes, dispensing and water pumps and similar equipment. In addition to its high degree of sealing, this range has a very fast 5KHz, switched output that can be essential when counting small gear teeth reliably.

The sensing face of the ‘Series E’ sensors are made from tough sapphire on the 4mm and M5 versions and from thick ceramic on the 6.5mm and M8 models — as opposed to the conventional plastic front face found on many sensors of this type that is vulnerable and unsuitable in applications where the sensor is in continuous contact with fluids and lubricants.

The housings are precision machined from tough AISI 303 stainless steel that is resistant to most corrosive liquids and media. High flexibility polyurethane (PUR) cables are fitted to all models. PUR is resistant to most oils and remains flexible even at low temperatures, preventing cracking or splitting that can lead to system failure.

The rear of the sensors are IP68 sealed, they have a wide voltage supply range of 10 to 30VDC, and will switch an output current of 200mA. The sensing range is stable from -25°C to +70°C, and they are short-circuit- / inverse-polarity-proof and overload protected.

CONTRINEX has manufactured inductive and photoelectric proximity switches since 1972. It specializes exclusively in the development, manufacture and sales of positioning sensors for industrial use. All departments and management levels in the company’s management system are ISO 9001:2000 certified.

ROSS CONTROLS Announces Updated Pneumatic Safety Certifications

(TROY, MI) – ROSS CONTROLS is pleased to announce that its DM2® Series C safety valves have received third-party certification from the BG (Berufsgenossenschaften- German Institute for Occupational Safety and Health). On July 8, 2009, the BG deemed the DM2® Series C products suitable for ISO 13849-1:2006 Category 4 PL e applications. The ISO 13849-1:2006 standard (Safety of Machinery, Safety-related Parts of Control Systems) will replace the EN 954-1 standard as of November 30, 2009. This certificate is available on the ROSS Web site
at www.rosscontrols.com or upon request from ROSS Customer Services.

All valves in the ROSS DM2® product line meet global requirements for machine safety and are commonly used for exhausting the downstream air to help meet stop-time requirements in machine guarding applications. Because many safety systems incorrectly focus solely on the electrical design and overlook mechanical elements, ROSS created the DM2® pneumatic double valve family to address this issue knowing that effective safety systems do not end at the
electrical wire.

For enhanced performance and value, memory, monitoring, and airflow control functions are
simply integrated into two identical valve elements. DM2® pneumatic safety valves lock out due
to asynchronous movement of valve elements during actuation or de-actuation, resulting in a
residual outlet pressure of less than one percent of supply. Overt action is required for reset, and
reset can only be accomplished by applying a remote air signal or by energizing the integrated
electrical (solenoid) reset. These ROSS safety valves are base-mounted and are available in 1/2”
to 1-1/2” ports sizes with NPT or BSPP threads.

Additionally, all DM2® valves will be labeled with the CE (Conformite Europeenne) mark to
comply with the New Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) that takes effect in the European Union
as of December 29, 2009. This directive defines the requirements for the CE marking of
products, requires the CE mark on safety components, and specifically includes “…valves with
additional means for failure detection intended for the control of dangerous movements on
machinery.” The “Declaration of Conformity” document is available on the ROSS Web site at
www.rosscontrols.com or upon request from ROSS Customer Services.

CE marking is not required for standard pneumatic devices and, as such, ROSS does not
specifically mark all products. However, declarations of conformity to the applicable standards
are available upon request for ROSS’ other product lines.

ifm Introduces PG Pressure Transmitter with Gauge Display and Numeric Indication

EXTON, PA – ifm efector inc., a leading manufacturer of sensors and controls, introduces a new line of pressure transmitters that combine the best features of a gauge, a switch and a sensor. The PG Series pressure transmitter is mounted in-line to provide a highly-visible indication of sanitary process conditions found in the food processing, dairy, beverage, and waste water industries.

Ceramic cell sensing technology provides long-term reliability, excellent overload protection and high precision indication (0.2%) of pressure values. The transmitter‘s flush mount, stainless steel design offers stability in harsh sanitary washdown conditions.

The PG’s gauge display indicates the current operating pressure relative to the overall range of the unit. A quick reference gauge pointer provides a visual of system pressure. The pointer is driven by an integrated stepper motor that eliminates the typical shaking that occurs with mechanical pointers and does not require damping liquid. A highly-visible LED ring can be programmed to indicate the position of the setpoint and resetpoint or to follow the position of the pointer (trend display).

A 4-digit LED numeric display indicates the current pressure value which can be programmed to display in different units (bar or psi). Two optical touch-screen pushbuttons offer menu-guided parameter setup such as setpoint and resetpoint, and normally open and normally closed functions. The touch-screen surface eliminates pushbutton cavities which prevents liquid ingress. The entire display rotates 350° for optimal visibility, and ergonomic indentations on the face aid in turning the display.

Eight models are available with various meansuring ranges from 1.45 psi (100 mbar) up to 361 psi (25 bar). For sanitary mounting, ifm’s Aseptoflex adapters feature PEEK and Viton sealing which offers long-term sealing and are resistant to swelling and aggessive media. The Micro DC transmitter is powered using an industry standard M12 connector. Starting list price for the PG pressure tranmitter is $475.00 (US).

SCHUNK Rotary feed-through DDF-V for SWS-I 11

SCHUNK has developed the rotary feed-through DDF-V for its integrated quick-change system. As a result, the interference factor of external cables can be dispensed with in future. The SWS-I-11 already includes six 3/2-way screw-in valves that replace a complete valve terminal. This means that only a single line is required for the compressed air supply because grippers and other tools are controlled by the integrated valves. Consequently, the SWS-I-11 requires a rotary feed-through which, like the DDF-V, only has one air connection but 14 electrical contacts for controlling the valves. Due to only one air duct, the height of the DDF-V has a very compact design. Fewer air ducts also mean fewer seals, therefore the energy required for overcoming the seal friction is significantly lower and the DDF-V requires less motor force.

The DDF-V is available in three different versions that fit the robot flanges ISO-31,5, ISO-40 and ISO-50. None of the three variants require an external plug for the quick-change head any longer, because the electrical contacts are internal.

Mead Introduces New Isonic® Valve

Mead Fluid Dynamics, a Bimba Company, announced today,
the arrival of the newest addition to the patented Isonic® valve line, the V2 series.
The new V2 is a 2-and 3-way solenoid-operated, direct-acting pneumatic valve. With
flow in the range of 0.01 to 0.05 Cv, the V2 is available with multiple voltage and
electrical connection options in both normally-closed and normally-open styles.

At the heart of the V2 is the award-winning Isonic® design, which enables flow
channels to be molded directly into polymer body sections. This eliminates the abrupt
air path changes associated with cross-drilled machining in traditional valves. The
resultant ribbon-like flow paths create near laminar flow with little energy/pressure
drop through the valve. Built-in, push-to-connect collets allow for simple tube and
manifold connections in seconds.

To view the V2 valve system in action, including “how it works,” and the snap-
on/quick-release manifold, visit bimba.com/MeadV2.

ENFINITY SYSTEM PROPORTIONAL VALVE AND CONTROLLER FROM ENFIELD TECHNOLOGIES

Enfield Technologies has introduced the Enfinity(R) System for advanced proportional control. This system comprises Enfield Technologies' M2 pneumatic control valve and C2 controller.

The M2 is an instrument-grade, proportional, directional control pneumatic valve that is designed for high performance. This valve utilizes a specialized linear force motor, as opposed to a traditional proportional solenoid. The M2's aperture is controlled at a very high speed, allowing the valve to respond quickly to set-point command changes.

Enfield Technologies' C2 is an enclosed high-speed, high-accuracy analog controller
with multiple PID and feed forward options. It includes an intuitive, user-friendly
digital LCD/membrane keypad user interface. Independent scaling of command and

SCHUNK Products Certified for Use in Cleanrooms

Many SCHUNK products can now be used in cleanrooms without hesitation. This is confirmed by the certificate issued by TÜV Süd (Technical Inspection Association in South Germany).

The certificate confirms suitability for use in Class 5 cleanrooms according to ISO 14644. ISO Class 5 is comparable to Class 100 of the US-Fed. -Std. 209, which is no longer valid, but still frequently referred to.

SCHUNK succeeded in certifying entire series, instead of just single products, as is often the case. Therefore, the certificate covers all
versions and variants of the products. In particular, the following series have been certified:
• PGN-plus parallel gripper
• DPG-plus sealed parallel gripper
• PZN-plus centric gripper
• DPZ-plus sealed centric gripper
• MPG miniature parallel gripper
• MPZ miniature centric gripper
• SRU rotary module

Customers and potential customers can request a PDF of the certificate from SCHUNK, therefore eliminating the need for certificates of suitability for use or conducting measurements before using products in cleanrooms. This saves time and money.

Initial measurements of SCHUNK grippers equipped with additional HUE protective covers achieved excellent results with ISO Class 2. Although final certification is yet to be granted, grippers with protective covers are already available from SCHUNK.

The new launch with still wider jaws: FIPA gripper GR04.130F

FIPA Inc. supplements its 130 range of grippers

FIPA Inc. has supplemented its comprehensive range of grippers: The gripper GR04.130F launched recently has jaws that are wider than those of the other models in the 130 range of grippers to provide a secure grip. And: An inductive sensor provides a feedback signal – and, thus, achieves enhanced process safety.

The 130 family of grippers are characterized by powerful gripping of die-cast parts in the injection molding industry. These grippers exert tremendous forces as a result of the dual principle of operation and two large pneumatic plungers.

Qualities that are a standard feature of FIPA products: Robust design, reliable in the production process – quality for long-term use. These grippers rarely need to be replaced and last a long time. The high degree of wear resistance is ensured by means of the hard-coated surfaces of the grippers and the gripper jaws.

All grippers of the 130 family are very light and provide a secure and reliable hold on any work-piece as a result of the cogged surface of the gripper jaws. Slippage is ruled out. The extremely high retention force of 95 N does the rest.

Pick-and-Place solutions: FIPA products are combined using the building block system. The recently launched GR04.130 gripper forms a part of it. Threaded and compressed air connections are compatible with the other products constituting the modular system of FIPA.

COOLING TOWER REDUCES MEDIA TEMPERATURE BY AS MUCH AS 260° CELSIUS (500° FAHRENHEIT)

The Winters SCT Series Cooling Tower is designed specifically to protect pressure instruments in high temperature applications. It works by utilizing “heat exchange” technology in the same way radiators do.

The cooling tower is mounted in between the pressure measuring instrument and process. Hot media from the process will flow through the cooling tower’s stainless steel spiral capillary. As it does, air will circulate through the cooling tower’s vented body, passing over the capillary. Heat transfer from the capillary to the air will occur, lowering the temperature of the media before it arrives at the top of the cooling tower and instrument.

Winters’ SCT Series Cooling Tower can significantly reduce media temperature, thus protecting the instrument and extending its service life. It is suitable for media temperatures up to 300°C (570°F), and may lower them by as much as 260°C (500°F) depending on the ambient temperature. The cooling tower can be used with a diaphragm seal.

Winters Instruments is a global manufacturer of pressure and temperature instrumentation, with distribution in over 80 countries. Go to www.winters.com to view our extensive list of products and distributors, or call 1-800-WINTERS for more information.

3 Jaw Pneumatic Angular Grippers have fail safe toggle lock.

AGI a leader in motion control technology introduces the latest technological advancement in three jaw pneumatic angular grippers.

The AGA Series Angular Gripper Actuator features four new models that have three jaws. The gripper jaws 180 degree opening is suited for applications which must be performed within a limited work area. The AGA-23, 33, 43 and 53 series have stroke-limiting screws to adjust the stroke between 0 and 180 degree. The four sizes have a range gripping forces from 20 to 200 lbs.

When the jaws are completely opened, the work piece can be placed in a fixture without having to retract the gripper. This saves an extra step as well as the expense of another axis of movement. The toggle mechanism greatly increases in power as the jaws near the fully closed position and become self-locking when past parallel. The internal linkages are guided by two groves that run the length of the body.
This will keeps the tooling jaws from loosing the center repeatability. Close attention must be made to the tooling jaws when designing them. Because the jaws swing an arc, the mechanism produces higher velocity at the end of your tooling during the stroke.
Therefore, tooling jaws should be short, lightweight as possible, and flow controls are recommended. In cases where longer jaws are needed, bumpers or miniature hydraulic shocks should be used to decelerate the jaw at the end of the stroke. All of these units are double acting, have multiple airports, mounting locations and available with sensor options for easy interfacing to electrical controls.

AGI supplies a complete range of sophisticated automation products that include: pneumatic parallel grippers, rotary actuators, thrusters, linear actuator slides, mini slides, tool changers, overload devices. The units are available in imperial and metric versions for flexibility and design for a world market.

Proportion-Air QL3: High Resolution Control at High and Low Flow

McCordsville, IN – Today Dan Cook the founder and president of Proportion-Air, Inc. announced the latest addition to the product line, the new QL3 Pressure Control Valve. The QL3 allows high volumes of air to move quickly and precisely at pressures up to 150 psig using proportional solenoid valves with a unique analog PID circuit. Ideal for use with flow meters, it provides high resolution and smooth pressure control at high and low flow rates and avoids the “steps” prevalent in most feed and bleed I/P’s. The output pressure is proportional to the electrical input or command signal.

The QL3 improves and builds on the proven Proportion-Air QB3 series’ high performance using a current driven variable orifice solenoid valve and the analog PID circuit. The PID circuit integrates error out quickly resulting in superior resolution. This combination of the “stepless” solenoid valve with a high speed analog PID on a high flow volume booster is what allows large volumes of air to be moved with precision at a very high flow rate.

The QL3 is also easily serviced. The volume booster is designed so there are no stamped gaskets or special molded diaphragms or seal parts. All of the parts related to normal maintenance are standard o-rings. Complete repair kits are available, but in case emergency repair is needed parts should be available from any fluid power distributor or even most neighborhood hardware stores.

Proportion-Air’s electro-pneumatic controls have been a staple of the industry for more than 25 years. Known for engineering excellence, Proportion-Air prides itself on solving its customers’ most difficult problems. The world wide headquarters is located in McCordsville, Indiana. Please contact Proportion-Air via telephone at 317-335-2602 or e-mail at info@proportionair.com.

INDUSTRIAL SANITARY GAUGE ASSEMBLY PROVIDES SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO 3A APPROVED GAUGES

Toronto, Ontario - Winters’ PSI Series is a stainless steel case gauge mounted to Tri-Clamp® sanitary style seal that does not have process threads or an entry point for the process media to
clog the seal. It is used to measure pressure on systems with media that may clog instrumentation or solidify, and is a cost-effective and viable solution when 3A approved gauges are not required. It is CRN registered.

Viscous materials like paint, ink or heavy liquids often solidify or build up around instrumentation. This causes blockage, rendering the instrument useless or causing false pressure readings. To prevent this, the PSI Series has a stainless steel diaphragm seal welded to a stainless steel dry gauge that can be liquid-filled. Various fill fluids are available. The diaphragm seal’s connection is available in a 1.5” (40mm) or 2” (50mm) bottom or back Tri-Clamp® fitting. Choose from ±1.5 or ±1% full scale gauge accuracy. This new gauge assembly from Winters comes with either a crimp-on or bayonet ring on the gauge.

PIAB’s new P6040 provides a modular solution in a smart design

PIAB, a global leader in industrial vacuum technology, introduces its P6040 pump range. Featuring patented COAX® technology, the P6040 can reduce energy costs by up to 25% or more compared to other methods of generating vacuum. With flexible mounting options, an extensive per¬formance range and optional control functions, the P6040 is highly adaptable and well suited for most industrial vacu¬um applications.

With its smart design, the P6040 offers low and powerful suction in a small package due to COAX® technology. This allows the pump to be mounted close to the point-of-suction, resulting in smaller pump requirements with lessened energy needs. A natural extension of PIAB’s P6010 pumps, the P6040’s operating efficiency is further optimized with inte-grated control options like Energy Saving (ES), helping companies reduce carbon footprint and improve conservation efforts.

Since COAX® technology puts energy to maximum use, it results in reduced compressed air needs and low noise levels for the P6040, providing a peaceful working atmosphere. Further improving the environment, while also protecting sensitive products from static charge, is the pump’s blow function. As compressed air is cooled, blow-out air is also cooled.

To ensure reliable separation, blow air is used for dividing thin sheets of material like plastic film or paper. The P6040 generates a strong flow for blow function at low pressure. When compressed air expands through the COAX® cartridge, intake vacuum flow is added to the flow of the air. Thus, one normal liter of compressed air results in as much as five liters of blow air.

The modular P6040 features an anodized aluminum housing to withstand even the most demanding environments. Upgrading existing equipment for better performance is simple, while using the P6040 on new machines ensures trouble-free operation in the most economical way. With no moving parts or heat generation, and virtually no maintenance required, downtime and work stoppage are drastically reduced.

Bimba Manufacturing Introduces Low-cost Position Feedback Cylinders for Demanding Applications

Bimba Manufacturing today announced the introduction of its new non-contact pneumatic position feedback cylinders, for applications that previous technology could not address.

Unlike traditional pneumatic feedback technology, the PFCN models are resistant to the effects of moisture, oil, airborne debris, dust and airline contamination. In addition, each cylinder is factory calibrated for precise 0 to 10 volt DC output. This ensures fast, easy installation and field replacement, even in multi-cylinder applications.

Bimba’s unique design is key to this improved performance. A proprietary magnetostrictive sensor, fixed inside the cylinder, senses position as the piston moves back and forth. Because of this, cylinders avoid wear and tear from rapid short-stroke cycling, making them ideal for demanding applications. Along with increased durability, this new sensor design enables Bimba to price the PFCN cylinders far below previous technology.
All PFCN models come in 09, 17, 31, 50 and 70 bore sizes and strokes up to 9 inches. Rod lock models are also available. Additional features include front nose, block front, universal mounting, bumpers, rod extension, low friction design and a companion closed-loop PCS controller.

All PFCN models are covered by Bimba’s 3-year warranty and are built to order in three working days. For detailed performance, selection, and ordering information, consult the Bimba PFCN catalog or call Bimba at 708.534.8544.

two identical valve elements inside one body. DM2E valves lockout and exhaust downstream air when asynchronous movement of valve elements is sensed during actuation or de-
actuation, resulting in a residual outlet pressure of less than 1% of supply. An intentional action is required for reset the valve, which can only be accomplished by
energizing the integrated electrical (solenoid) reset. Inlet and outlet ports on both sides of the valve provide flexibility for piping and all models include a high flow
silencer.

An optional Status Indicator is available to provide status feedback to the equipment’s control system of the valve’s lock-out or ready-to-run condition and includes a pressure
switch with both normally open and normally closed contacts.

MMS-P Magnetic Switch from SCHUNK

With the MMS-P, SCHUNK has added a brand new magnetic switch with two programmable switching points to its product range. Now, a single sensor is capable of detecting both the “open” and “closed” states. That means fewer sensors, cables, and adjustments, which leads to lower costs.

The switching points are now no longer set by pushing the sensor to the proper position and clamping it there. Instead, the sensor is simply mounted near the piston, which is moved to the desired switching position. One push of a button is enough to program the sensor to this switch-on point. If the standard switch-off hysteresis is too large, it can also be reprogrammed with ease.

Components such as grippers and rotary modules can be equipped with the MMS-P, because it fits into every 4-C groove in all SCHUNK products. It therefore represents an interesting alternative to the familiar MMS-22 sensors. The MMS-P is less expensive than two conventional slotted switches. The teachable slotted switch is available both as a connector version with 4-pin M8 connector and a cable version with open wires.

Bimba Manufacturing Introduces “T4” New Heavy Duty Thruster with Twice the Load-carrying Capacity

Bimba Manufacturing announced the introduction of their new heavy duty “T4” Thruster today. Available in bore sizes 2” and larger, this new thruster offers the smooth actuation of the “T” series Thrusters, while delivering twice the static load-carrying capability.

With the same distinct design as the original Thruster series, including a black anodized body and precision re-circulating ball bearings, the “T4” provides ultra smooth actuation. At the same time, four guide shafts, instead of the typical two, double the load-carrying capacity and reduce deflection.

“Doubling the load carrying without doubling the cost is a great advantage for customers with heavy duty applications,” said Tom Carlson, Bimba’s Linear Thruster Product Manager. “For 30% more than the ‘T’ series Thruster, a customer gets significant increase in load capacity and great value.”

The Bimba “T4” Thruster is available in 2”, 2.5” and 3” bores and comes in standard stroke lengths of 1” to 12” increments. Strokes up to 36” are also available. Optional features include air cushions, internal and external bumpers, and magnetic position sensing.

Rexroth expands the function of pneumatic position monitoring

Rexroth has expanded the functionality of the pneumatically-driven MS01 controlling and measuring system. This system checks the presence, position, shape, and dimension of test objects during automatic supply and processing of work pieces.

(Lexington, KY – www.boschrexroth-us.com/brp) The Rexroth MS01 pneumatic position monitoring can be used, for example, to check for work piece presence or size accuracy. It is especially suited for steps in the production process in which chips or other impurities accumulate. The MS01 is equipped with an integrated cleaning pressure function to ensure that the measuring results are not off due to dirt particles or coolant. This guarantees regular cleaning of the measuring surface.

The new MS01 has an additional connection for a permanent sealing air function. This keeps the lines free of dirt by blowing air through them at a low pressure whenever no test object is in front of the measuring nozzle.

A new scale on the set-up flow control enables simplified conversion. When exchanging the measuring module or when expanding a system by one or more measuring modules, one merely has to adjust one specified numeric reference value. A new, integrated detent ensures more security against accidental actuation of the set-up flow control.

The system can be quickly expanded. The MS01 pneumatic position monitoring can be integrated into every machine controller as a block solution with the CD01 valve system, which means minimal assembly and installation effort for the user. The measuring system can be mounted on a plastic base plate with a push-in fitting, but an aluminum base plate with thread connection is now offered as well. This ensures a solid construction according to ISO standard 15407-1 826 mm width) and enables the use of standard and stainless steel fittings with G¼ threads. Rexroth now offers a single sub-base for space saving mounting close to the measuring nozzle.

The measuring nozzles gauge the work piece without contact. The dynamic pressure generated between the work piece and measuring nozzle indicates the presence or size accuracy of the work piece. The measuring result is transferred by a signal to the machine controller. Incorrect work pieces and those with incorrect positioning are removed from the system. By installing a second sensor, it is now possible to monitor the supply pressure in order to interrupt the process before the actual position monitoring system if the supply pressure is missing.

Parker is pleased to announce the new PDRD Series of Refrigeration Dryers

Refrigeration Dryers PDRD Series

Key Features:
- “Plug & Play” Design for Easy Installation and
Operation (PDRD10 - PDRD125).
- Small Space Saving Design.
- Oversized Demister Separator Resulting in
- Excellent Liquid Removal Over all Operating
Conditions.

Why Refrigeration Dryers?
Compressed air is an important provider of energy for industry; what is often overlooked however is
the need to provide quality treatment for this air. Compressed air contains condensate which, when
cooled, will turn into water, causing extensive damage to both the compressed air network and the
finished product itself. PDRD refrigeration dryers actively remove this condensate to achieve near
perfectly dry compressed air. The benefits are notable: less system downtime, reduced costs and
maintenance, and an improved finished product. PDRD, thanks to its PlusPack heat exchanger (patent
pending) and the most compact dimensions on the market, will prove a major asset in your factory.

NEW CLIPPARD ELECTRONIC LATCHING VALVE

Cincinnati, Ohio -- Clippard’s 2- and 3-way Electronic Latching Valve has many of the same features as the popular EV valve line including small, compact design, quiet operation, a single moving element and more. A careful balance of forces—through the precise placement of a permanent magnet in the valve core—produces a bi-stable valve. A short pulse of current opens the valve, which “latches” open indefinitely after the current stops with no power required. A subsequent pulse of current in the opposite direction closes the valve. The valve consumes less energy and produces less heat than a standard solenoid valve when used in extended duty cycle applications, since the coil is energized for only a small fraction of the total duty cycle. Various connector, mounting, voltage, port, orifice and seal options available.

Clippard also provides custom solutions for specific needs, including special configurations, manifolds, and systems. For more information about these valves or any of Clippard’s 5,000 other pneumatic products, call 513-521-4261or click here

3" Adjustable Air Amplifier To Cool, Dry and Exhaust

EXAIR’s new 3" Adjustable Air Amplifier offers a simple, low cost way to move high volumes of air to cool, vent, exhaust and dry. The airflow can be easily adjusted from a “blast” to a “breeze” to match the application requirements. There are no impellers or moving parts to wear out.

Adjustable Air Amplifiers utilize the Coanda effect (a basic principle of fluidics) to produce outlet flows up to 24 times the compressed air consumed. The compressed air exhausts through a ring nozzle,
attaches to an internal contour, then flows toward one end. It creates a vacuum on the opposite end that pulls free air through the unit. This induced air mixes with the compressed air for a high volume, high velocity outlet flow. When set to a .002” (0.05mm) air gap supplied at 80 PSIG, the outlet flow is 2,323 SCFM when measured 6” (152mm) from the outlet. Sound level is low at 83 dBA. The vacuum and discharge end can be ducted using standard hose or tube.

Applications include cooling hot parts, exhausting smoke and fumes, distributing heat in ovens or
molds, and drying components. Construction is aluminum or stainless steel. Prices start at $242.
Additional sizes from 3/4" (19mm) up to 4" (102mm) diameter are available from stock.

BIMETALLIC TEMPERATURE SWITCH WITH BUILT-IN POWER RELAY

Elettrotec's TCR bimetallic temperature switch is a temperature detection device with a built-in power relay controlled by a metallic sensing element. The product was conceived in order to solve installation problems of similar devices which do not integrate the sensor with the power relay into a single component. These devices require a separate mounting on the unit to be monitored as well as a separate electrical connection.

The new TCR model features a bimetallic sensor completely covered inside a flange made of OT 58 brass. The bimetallic sensor is connected to a power relay placed in a strong plastic housing and embedded in protective resin.

The switch is quite easy to use. The bimetallic element is embedded in the metallic flange which detects the temperature to by means of the threaded mounting. When the desired temperature is reached, the bimetallic element forces an electric circuit to either open or close thus actuating the power relay. Elettrotec's TCR bimetallic temperature switch is a device with a factory-set fixed actuation point. The built-in power relay and its electrical circuits allow a maximum load of 40 A in pickup state and 20 A in steady state.

This device is designed to be mounted on tanks or installations which require their fluid temperature to be kept at a given preset value in order to prevent equipment damage. This is particularly useful for hydraulic and pneumatic systems such as heat exchangers. When the preset threshold is reached, the temperature switch causes the automatic actuation of the cooling or heating systems. It can also be installed on units which actuate according to the detected temperature value or on industrial lines which have processing cycles based on a set temperature scale. Finally, the product can also send overshoot and restore alarm signals.

Elettrotec's TCR temperature switch is the cost-effective and time-saving solution contributing to a reduction of installation and wiring costs. The temperature switch can in fact be directly connected to the units to be
monitored.

RTC-EG (E-line Guide) represents the most cost-effective guided version of the new rodless cylinders and the RTC-HD (Heavy Duty) version is designed for handling heavy loads. The RTC series is available in diameters of 16-80 mm (5/8”-3”and with a maximum stroke length of 9900 mm (32.5 ft.), depending on version and size, and is available with ISO-G or NPT ports. To determine the right cylinder for every application, a configurator, a calculation program and CAD data are available online.

The RTC cylinders are equipped with an oval-shaped piston instead of a round piston. This provides them with an excellent load capacity and high moment capacity. In the RTC series, the slide and piston are constructed as a single unit–allowing the slide to move maximum loads even on smaller cylinders and thus demonstrate its force. Last but not least, the RTC scores points for its modern, uniform design: rounded profile edges reduce material consumption to a minimum.

Perfect combinations
The guided cylinders come with an Easy-2-Combine interface. Via this standardized interface, the RTC can easily be combined with additional components from Rexroth, which are also equipped with the same interface, to form multi-axis systems. This saves users both time and money.

The Refrigerated Extractor Dryer from La-Man...

La-Man Corporation offers a series of Refrigerated Extractor Dryers to provide reduced dewpoint temperatures and air line filtration all in one unit for a wide variety of compressed air applications. The Refrigerated Extractor dryer uses cold coalescing to continuously remove the condensed liquids.

The Refrigerated Extractor Dryer uses refrigeration to cool the air to condense aerosols into liquid contamination. The Extractor Dryer is used in the cold circuit to remove the liquid contamination where it is formed. The Extractor Dryer also filters solid particles down to 5 microns. The clean dry air is then reheated to a useable temperature prior to exiting the device. The result is compressed air that is clean and dried to eliminate any condensation downstream.

Product features include a lighted power On/Off switch, Refrigeration circuit condition indicator, and a condenser panel filter. Maintenance is quick and easy. Service kits are available for the Extractor Dryer.

In addition to the series of Refrigerated Extractor Dryers, other compressed air filtration products are available from La-Man Corporation including the Extractor Dryer, the SuperStar .01 Micron Filter, the AMD Series Membrane Dryers, the Pneuguard In-line Dryers and Lubricators, and Breathing Air Systems.

The EGN 80 and 160 from SCHUNK

SCHUNK has expanded its EGN series of servo electric 2-finger parallel grippers to include sizes 80 and 160 to the existing size 100. The new sizes have a stroke per finger of 8 and 16 millimeters, respectively. This upward and downward expansion of the series now makes it possible to use the exact size of gripper for each task with the right specifications.

The EGN grippers can be flexibly adjusted and controlled in terms of gripping force, speed, position, and acceleration of the gripper fingers. They are designed for high payloads and have enough power reserves to handle heavy components with gripping forces of up to 1000 N. The capability of pre-positioning the gripper fingers enables short closing times and high cycle rates.

The EGN is controlled by the new external controller from SCHUNK, the MCS, which is used for the standardized control of nearly all servo-electric components from SCHUNK and enables very easy programming, pre-configuration and implementation. With the MCS controller, command libraries can be created for use with other modules. The integrated Bluetooth interface also makes it possible to modify the behavior of the controlled components from a central location, which provides an unprecedented degree of flexibility in automation processes.

Ross Controls Expands L-O-X® Valve Family

(TROY, MI) – Ross Controls is adding to its family of OSHA-compliant L-O-X® (Lock Out & eXhaust) valves with two models that feature smaller port sizes (1/4” and 3/8”) for machines like those operating in the packaging industry and other industries.

OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.147) and ANSI standards (Z244) require that energy sources (pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, etc.) be shut off or disconnected while equipment is being serviced. Furthermore, the disconnected valve or switch must be locked to prevent reactivation while anyone is servicing or performing maintenance on the equipment. The manual L-O-X® valve controls the airflow simply by moving its large red handle in or out. The valve is open when the handle is pulled outward and air then moves freely from inlet to outlet port. A short inward push of the handle shuts off airflow of air and opens the exhaust port to immediately release downstream air. Similarly the family of L-O-X® products assists manufacturers and users comply with European regulation EN 1037 (Safety of Machinery) and Canadian Standard CSA Z460 (Control of Hazardous Energy).

Furthermore, some specific American and Canadian industry standards, such as ANSI/PMMI packaging equipment standards (B155, 1/7.11.1), CSA Power Press Operation (Z142), and pending ANSI B11 General Safety Regulations (B11 GSR) have four specific requirements for valves used for lockout. The valve must be easy to operate such as a simple push and pull, the valve must only be able to be locked in the off position that blocks the supply and exhausts downstream air, the valve must have a full-sized exhaust port to achieve air exhaustion in a timely manner, and finally there must be a way to verify that the downstream air has been removed.

The ROSS L-O-X® valves meet all four requirements and includes an indicator port option for test point verification of absence of energy downstream of the L-O-X® valve next to the device in the pneumatic circuit. An additional feature unique to Ross includes using Teflon® seals to combat sticking rubber seals that can sometimes affect valves that are used infrequently. This provides a sure shifting force throughout the live of the valve. “The new L-O-X® valve has a balanced design,” explains Eric Cummings, a safety industry specialist at Ross Controls. “There is equal pressure on both sides of the spool so that an operator only has to overcome friction, not extreme air pressure to open and close the valve.”

New Tools for Automated O-Ring Application

Innovative O-Ring Installation Device Provides Aid to Employers and Employees

AGI, a leading provider of sophisticated automation technologies, releases new robotic tools that automate O-Ring Installation. O-Rings are utilized in many products, including medical devices, tractors, valves, and home appliances. This automation technology can be implemented in innumerable manufacturing industries. Two separate advanced dual motion gripper instruments offer means to position and seal O-rings for fully-automated assembly lines and semi-automated single-station hand assists.

AGI’s O-Ring-Assembly Tools come in two sizes: the AGP-6-OR (which has six jaws) and the AGP-8-OR (which has eight). These pneumatic grippers can accommodate placement applications from 3 to 12 inch I.D. Both are designed to facilitate part ejection and part seating and are perfect for installations where an ejector is needed after the part is positioned, or when a seal needs to be placed down a long shaft.

The most obvious advantages that are inherent to automating traditional manual jobs are related to time and cost reduction. Typically, a partially automated hand-assist station can speed the process of O-Ring application by at least three times. But according to AGI President, Peter Farkas, that is just one of the many advantages of utilizing advanced robotics in this specialized function. O-rings are easily damaged or twisted when mounted manually or with a three-prong device. But, “there is generally far less damage done to the O-Ring itself when installed by a 6 or 8 jaw gripper,” says Mr. Farkas. This is crucial because damaged or incorrectly mounted O-rings can result in failed seals, and ultimately, a faulty product.

Furthermore, specialists in ergonomics have found that repeated-stress injuries are a leading cause of many ailments, including tendonitis and carpel tunnel syndrome. In addition to worker injury and decreased morale, manufacturing firms suffer soaring medical costs and production losses as a result of these types of injuries. AGI’s O-ring installation tools help to curb such worker injuries and boost the bottom line.

AGI’s significant investments to their production plant allow them to deliver the O-Ring placement products to customers with little lead time. They can now offer their state-of-the-art technologies at even more aggressive pricing, making available automation technologies to manufacturing plants of all sizes.

About AGI: AGI supplies a complete range of sophisticated automation products that include parallel grippers, rotary actuators, thrusters, linear actuator slides, mini slides, tool changers, and overload devices. All products are available in imperial and metric versions for flexibility of design for a world market. For more information on this product or AGI, call (203) 459-8345 or visit www.agi-automation.com.

Swivel unit SRH – Modular is simply better

SCHUNK Inc. introduces the new series of 180° swivel heads SRH. The swivel heads of the new SRH are completely modular in structure and consist of the tried and tested SRU rotary modules combined with two swivel corners, EDF electric feed-throughs, and MDF media feed-throughs. This means precise rotation and long tool life using proven components. Using standard components also means short delivery times and high availability of the components due to minimal spare parts inventory.

The new SRH series comes in six sizes and twelve torques ranging from 0.9 to 67.8 Nm (0.6 ft-lb to 50 ft-lb). The electric feed-through of the SRH is designed to use digital signals for sensors or simple actuators. Even bus signals can be fed through the unit as an additional option. The EDF feed-throughs ensure considerable greater reliability than the breakage-prone method of routing cables through the center bore of a rotary actuator.

Even more, the connections of the SRH swivel head are easily accessible and universally equipped with housing connectors or sockets. The media feed-through is directly connected to the mounting surfaces of the swivel head, and both the swivel head itself and the rotating grippers can be supplied with compressed air directly without hoses. This ensures the necessary flexibility for all automation solutions.
